TRANSCRIBED FROM THE HELENA WORLD JANUARY 27, 1918 P. 3
Somewhere in France,
My dearest Mother:
Suppose you have been too busy during Christmas time to write. Have had a very quiet time out here during the holidays and in a way I’m glad. Festivities don’t appeal very much to me now.
The snow is still on the ground and it’s bitter cold---makes one wish for a warm comfortable home.
I do hope every one of you had an enjoyable Xmas. Had some mighty nice, Xmas letters and greetings from England. It’s nice to be so well remembered, isn’t it?
Some people seem to think the war will be over in a few months---I’m still inclined to be pessimistic about it.
Guess the food shortage hasn’t reached you yet: at least I hope not. Don’t think it a bad idea to prepare for it however.
Heaps of love and best wishes to you all for the Coming Year.
Your son,
“BEN”
December 31st. 1917.
NOTES: Ben Prince was writing to his mother Mrs. Peal Prince of Helena, Arkansas. He had serving with the British Royal Field Artillery for two and a half years.
