TRANSCRIBED FROM THE HARRISON TIMES OCTOBER 13, 1917 P. 4
Camp Funston, Kans., Oct. 4
.
To my Friends and Relatives in North Arkansas:
I wish to extend my good wishes to all. I am going to help get the kaiser and do it as soon as we can, but don’t believe there is any man in America that would drop a bomb on Red Cross headquarters, a public school or any thing of that kind to get the kaiser. We are going to do it honorably and as soon as we can. We expect to meet you when we return.
LESTER X. RALEY
NOTES: Raley was born on August 24, 1892 in Lead Hill, Arkansas and died in Los Angles, California on December 7, 1965. He departed New York, NY on July 30, 1918 onboard the Mauretania. He was a Private serving in Co. #3 Camp Hancock July Automatic Replacement Draft Infantry.
