NOTES: This partial letter was written by Private Gustavus O. Reese writing from Toul, France on January 29, to his mother Mrs. L. F. Reese of Mena, Arkansas He reported he had gone over the top several times but he was wounded on the last day of fighting. He was born on June 25, 1894 in Arkansas and died on August 9, 1964 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Glendale, Ohio. His military headstone identifies him as a Ohio Artillery Private serving in the US Army during World War I.
