TRANSCRIBED FROM THE SPECTATOR JULY 30, 1918 P. 4
U. S. S. Arizona, June 16, 1918.
Dear Mother and All:
Arrived O.K. on ship. Had a very nice trip back, found a very agreeable companion in the person of a young lady from Memphis. She rode about 900 miles with me. Everything is just the same as when I left the ship. Gee! but I'm sleepy. I'm not going to write much, just a few lines to let you know I got here allright, so will close for I must sleep some today.
NOTES: This partial letter was written by Charley Lee Voett Rummage. He was born on April 2, 1896 in Ozark, Arkansas and died in Los Angeles, California on January 3, 1952. He is buried in the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California. His military headstone identifies him as a California seaman serving in the US Navy. He enlisted on July 5, 1917 and was discharged on August 16, 1919.
