TRANSCRIBED FROM THE ATKINS CHRONICLE FEBRUARY 22, 1918 P. 1
Editor Chronicle:
Have been thinking for some time that I would write to the Chronicle, and will make an attempt this evening.
My father sends me the paper most every week and I always enjoy reading it very much.
The climate here is very much different to that of Arkansas. There has been no signs of winter here except a little frost one morning. The sun shines every day, almost like August at home.
I came to San Francisco on the 7th of August, and have been in the Hospital Corps Training school since.
Suppose Atkins is running short of young fellows by now. Atkins sure did send out a bunch of fellows into the service. There is an old saying, that the navy will either make a “man” or a “bum” out of a fellow. Of course that expression could be applied to everyday life, too, but I think the navy has many opportunities and advantages to offer. I have about completed the course required in the school and suppose I will be sent out some time this month.
Kindest regards to all my Atkins friends.
Yours sincerely,
Elmer Sanders
