TRANSCRIBED FROM THE PINE BLUFF DAILY GRAPHIC SPETEMBER 8, 1918 P. 6
We made the trip across in five hours less than thirteen days.
I have seen actual submarine warfare and will say that it was sure exciting. Our convoy is sure that we destroyed two subs and is not sure about the third one. I am sending my appointment and I want you to take care of it for me. I don’t know when my training will begin but right away I suppose.
NOTES: This partial letter was written by Corp. Ellis Allen Sheppard to his father E. A. Sheppard of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was born on Nov 12, 1896 in Pine Bluff. He sailed for France on July 31, 1918 from Newport News onboard the Tenadores. He was described as being of medium height and build with blue eyes and dark hair.
