TRANSCRIBED FROM THE ROGERS DEMOCRAT JULY 25, 1918 P. 1
St.Nagaire, France, June 24.
Dear Folks:
I wrote you a letter yesterday but have something more to tell you now.
I went to town yesterday afternoon and while I was sitting in a restaurant eating, two sailors passed by and I recognized one of them as Bill Curry.
Dr. Curry’s son you know. He is the very first one I have met from home and you can just imagine how good I felt. But to top it off, I went over to the camp with Bill, his camp is not more than two hundred yards from ours, and there I ran on to my cousin Eursel Hendrix. Bill had forgotten to tell me about him.
They are in the navy but are doing land service with a naval railway battery. We are all feeling fine. They have been here for about two weeks. Be sure and tell Dr.Curry about Bill.
My address from now on will be A.P.O. 735 as I shall be there before I get an answer to this. Must close now and go over to see the boys. Love to all.
LESTER SKAGGS
NOTES: Charles Lester Skaggs was born on December 28, 1895 in Bentonville, Arkansas and died on August 31, 1966. He is buried in the Forest Park Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
