TRANSCRIBED FROM THE WYNNE PROGRESS NOVEMBER 1, 1918 P. 4
2nd Co. Inf. Rep. & Tr. Troops,
Camp Grant, Ill, Sept. 23, 1918.
Dear Mr. Osborn:
I have been moving around so much here lately I have failed to get my paper for the past four weeks; and I sure do miss it, but I think I am permanently located now, so you can send it to the above address and I will appreciate it very much.
120 non-commissioned officers from Camp Pike were sent up here to form the nucleus of the infantry replacement and training troops, and we have some job, but the work is interesting, so that helps some. Samp Grant is situated five miles from Rockford, Ill., a city of 75,000; it is a nice place and the people are as nice to the soldiers as anyone could be, but I don’t like it as well as I did Little Rock, and Camp Grant is far from being as good a camp as Camp Pike, and if I am here this winter I know I will freeze. Already it is real cool and I sleep under three blankets every night.
With best wishes for your success, and trusting I will receive the paper from now on, I am,
Sincerely yours,
Sgt. Chas. M. Smith
