TRANSCRIBED FROM CARLISLE INDEPENDENT FEBRUARY 27, 1919 P. 6
Vallender, Jan.
Dear Mother:
Will answer your letter I received a few days ago; was very glad to hear from you. This leaves me fine and dandy and hope this will find you the same. How are sister and Lee? I have not heard from either of them since I have been in Europe. Don’t know when I will come home but hope it will be soon. I feel that I have done my part.
I was sure glad to get Ross’s address. I will try and write him a few lines. You spoke about Ross. I haven’t heard from him since June.
Well I will close, tell sisters and brothers hello.
From your son,
Samuel L. Smith,
Co. M 23 Inf. A.E.F.
