TRANSCRIBED FROM THE CLARKSVILLE HERALD-DEMOCRAT OCTOBER 3, 1918 P. 4
Dear Father and all:
Will write you a few lines to let you know that I am well and feeling fine. We are drilling every day. The war is getting along fine—what we can hear of it. France is a beautiful country. It has plenty of wine and pretty girls, so we have a nice time. I like the girls O. K. but cannot do much for the wine. I believe we will be back in the states in 6 or 8 months for the Sammies are sure doing the work over here and I do not believe it will take long to finish things up. Write soon to your son.
Corporal Earl C. Stumbaugh
NOTES: Letter was written on September 8. Stumbaugh was a member of Company A, 141st Machine Gun Battalion. He was born on November 11, 1899 and died in 1922. He enlisted on September 11, 1917 and was discharged on January 13, 1919. He is buried in the Oakland Memorial Cemetery in Clarksville, Arkansas.
