TRANSCRIBED FROM THE DEQUEEN BEE OCTOBER 19, 1917 P. 2
Camp Pike, Ark., Oct. 10, 1917.
Dear Bill:
I guess you think I do not intend to write but will try to. I received the copy of the Bee for which I thank you very much. I certainly enjoy reading the Bee. Bill, we are getting along fine. Part of our bunch have been transferred to artillery and other places, among those were Frank Rogers, Julius Smith, Wade Battle, Richard Bell and others.
We are progressing very fast drilling our Captain says. We all have our uniforms, so we look like fine soldiers. Better come and join us. We are through with vaccination, are also out of quarantine, so we feel much better along that line. A crowd of us went to Little Rock Saturday night. Had a pretty good time.
We are having some pretty cool weather here now. I was on guard last night part of the time. Had to walk post from 12 o’clock to 2 o’clock. My, I sure got cold.
Bill, write me a long letter and tell me the news. Give my regards to the P. O. Bunch.
Bryan
NOTES: Suggs was one of seventy-five Sevier county boys who reported to Camp Pike on September 19, 1918 as part of the draft. He is writing from Camp Pike to William Scarborough of DeQueen, Arkansas.
