This meal was prepared and served to the enlisted men and officers of the thirty first (31st. Co.) Thanksgiving.
There is no mistake but what we can cook and eat without the fair sex, but how nice it would seem to happen around where “Sally” was preparing a meal, apron dragging the floor, sleeves up to her elbows, flour on her nose.
In a few weeks we will be driving up to a wagon yard to spend the night. Instead of walking into some hotel, and I’m afraid and hope the wagon yards of good old Columbia county will be crowed.
Lieutenant Edgar Talley
8th Rc. Bn. 162nd Depet Bregode.
NOTES: Lieutenant Benjamin Edgar Talley Sr. was writing about the Thanksgiving meal served at Camp Pike. He was born on February 4, 1892 at Magnolia, Columbia County, Arkansas and died on June 22, 1951 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was described as being tall and medium build with dark gray eyes and black hair.
