Everybody is wild about athletics due to its great upkeep of the morale, which is highly necessary now that the war is over and everyone is thinking of going home.
NOTES: This partial letter was written by Lieutenant Walter Ware Terry to his parents. He had been selected the athletic director for the Ninth Army Corps, in France. He had been a star sports athlete in high school and had played professional baseball for several years. He was a graduate of the officer’s training camp at Fort Roots, Arkansas. He went to France with the 312th Supply Train of the 87th Division. He was born on August 7, 1892 in Little Rock, Arkansas and died on November 12, 1957. He is buried in the Little Rock National Cemetery. His military headstone identifies him as Arkansas, 1st Lt 348 Inf. 87 Division serving in World War I.
