TRANSCRIBED FROM THE POCAHONTAS STAR HERALD JUNE 7, 1918 P. 3
Mrs. M. E. Thomas,
Pocahontas, Ark.,
Dear Mother:
Your letter received and was glad to hear from you. Am getting along just fine, but only regret that I can’t be with my little sweetheart. It wouldn’t be so bad, if I could have her near so I could see her often.
Am doing duty in the division Headquarters office, assistant to the Sergeant Major, so am having some long hours altho the work is not so very hard. Am looking to be assigned there permanently, as soon as papers can come forward.
I dont have to drill any since I was called to the Headquarters, but I sure did “Float it about” for about a week. After coming to Camp, but just as soon as my classification papers reached the Headquarters, I was called for duty there.
I hope you are getting along fine and hope you wont worry about your children. The army is just what a boy needs to make a man of him. We get plenty to eat, and drink. Have lots of sleep and lots to do, so don’t worry. Havn’t gotten the candy yet, but am looking for it each day. Address your letter to 31st, Co. __Tr. Bn., 156 Depot Brigade, Camp Jackson.
Lots of love,
Bob.
