TRANSCRIBED FROM THE LOG CABIN DEMOCRAT SEPTEMBER 19, 1918 P. 6
The place I am located at present is indeed a beautiful one. It being in a new or rather foreign country it is very pleasing to look upon. Most all the houses in town are very neat in appearance, showing the work of years ago. If I could only talk French with ease I would enjoy the sights much better. By the way, sea sickness is a swell thing to have. I had my part. I feel like a lark in the morning sunlight raving to keep on the go and alter get me a Dutchman. I am still on the lookout for Lowell. Hope to find him soon.
NOTES: This partial letter was written by Corp. Byron Thompson to his parents Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Thompson of Conway, Arkansas. He was serving with the 153rd Infantry and had received his basic training at Camp Beauregard, La. A partial letter written by his brother Lowell is also posted on this site.
