TRANSCRIBED FROM THE FAYETTEVILLE DAILY DEMOCRAT FEBRUARY 24, 1919 P. 1
Dear Editor:
I wish to draw your attention to the fact that there is going to be a glad day among the people of Fayetteville soon. There are several good men from Fayetteville who are in the 82d Division. They, besides myself, are very anxious to see all of their friends and put their feet under a real table once more.
The 82d Division has credit for 8 battles. We were in the St. Mihiel drive on the Lorraine front and in the Meuse-Argonne offensive. Our artillery was in that sector when the armistice was signed.
The 82d Division is on the list to go home soon. We are looking forward to a good time and a hearty welcome among our loved ones.
NOTES: W. E. Thompson was writing to the editor of the newspaper. He was serving in the Headquarters Co. 820th Field Artillery 82d Division. American Post Office 712, A.E.F.
