TRANSCRIBED FROM THE COLUMBIA BANNER AUGUST 14, 1918 P.2

Editor Banner,
Dear Sir:
I write to your paper to let the boys and girls know I am enjoying my trip. I am enjoying myself fine. The people over here certainly were proud to see us. This is a pretty country, and I like here just as well as I do there. Say, boys, join the army and see the world. I have seen part of it and will see more of it before I get back. I was traveling 50 days and nights on the way over here.
The Allies have driven the enemy back 15 miles in the last three days. They are getting over Journey’s Lane now and are gazing back.
Well, I will close with love and best wishes to all.
Willie Triplet,
Co. D. 148 Mg. Bn. A.E. France
Po 727.
NOTES: William “Willie” Leonidus Triplet was on born April 2, 1895 in Shreveport, Louisiana and died on December 24, 1976. He is buried in the Emerson Presbyterian Cemetery at Emerson, Columbia County. He was described as being of medium height and build with blue eyes and red hair.
