Dear Mother and All:
Have been on guard along the German boundary last night and today and am pretty tired and sleepy. We started on this hike from near Beaumont, France, crossed the Marne and hiked through Belgium, stopping one night in Arlon, then to Luxenbourg, and Saturday night we were in Ettelbruck, which is quite a city. The people in Belgium and Luxenbourg were very good to us; had parades with bands, to come out and meet us, and treated us royally along the way. We are now right along the boundary, and don’t know when we will cross over. Suppose you will read the accounts of the hikes in the papers.
On my birthday, we hiked through Belgium all day, but that night, we stopped in Arlon and I had a real good feed and a real cigar to smoke, which made quite a celebration.
Don’t know what we will be doing Thanksgiving. If we are here, we will probably have quite a good feed (for us). Anyway, I have lots of things to be thankful for and I won’t forget you home folks. Hope I will be able to write you often from now on. We haven’t had any mail for some time, but will get it all by and by.
I guess I won’t get a Xmas package, for I didn’t get any slip to send home, but you can keep it until I come (some day), I hope not months away.”
Your son,
Bill
NOTES: This letter was written by Bill Tucker to his parents Mr. and Mrs. C. Tucker.
