TRANSCRIBED FROM THE HOT SPRINGS NEW ERA MAY 12, 1919 P. 4
We took in Paris, went to the best operas and thought we would go to a swell hotel. There were about 140 standing in line, but we were used to lining up for everything that happens. I guess we stayed in the line about 45 minutes when we saw a big sign, ‘For Officers Only.’ We beat it down to a swell café. We were so hungry we could have eaten three cans of corn willie. We had lined up for an oyster supper, when we saw another sign, ‘For Officers Only.’ The next war we have, I hope it will be ‘For Officers Only.’
NOTES: This partial letter was written by an unidentified Little Rock, Arkansas soldier to his sister.
