HELLO MOTHER:
I will write you a few lines as it is my first opportunity in a long time. I haven’t heard form you since I have been in France and sure would sure like to see you all. Have been in the hospital for some time but am back with my company now. I am well and alright mother so don’t worry about me. I think I will be home before long. I hope so: Tell the children hello for me. It is raining here today. I was over the top once and it was some warm over there. Mother I am having a nice time where I am at now but would like to be home to spend Xmas but guess I won’t get to come yet. Tell all of the Piney boys’ to have a big party ready when I get home and we will all have a big time. I haven’t heard from anyone since I have been over here. Please answer this letter as I am anxious to hear from you. Tell father to keep the farm for another year if he wants to as I will be home to help him another year. I won’t write much tonight but will write often to you so good buy from,

NOTES: Elbert Franklin Wade was writing to his mother, Mrs. W. O. Wade. He enlisted ON May 29, 1918 and was discharged on May 8, 1919. He served in Co. G. 306th Infantry. He was born on Jul 24, 1894 in Metalton, Arkansas and died on October 26, 1973. He is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore, Oklahoma. His military headstone identifies him as a Pv.t U S Army serving in World War I. He was described as being tall and of medium build with brown eyes and hair.
