Editor Wave:
I will write a few lines to your good paper I am a Searcy county boy and I like to hear from you all. I am liking the army life fine. I am getting plenty to eat and a good bed to rest on at night. I have been in the army one month to day and I will stay here about two more weeks and then I will be ready for overseas duty. Company D is the best company in Camp Pike. We drill eight hours a day now. The reason they are drilling us so hard is, I suppose, so that we can go to Berlin in a few days.
I wish I was up there in Searcy county. I would get into some farmers orchard. I have not seen a good apple since I left home. When I come back home I will make up for lost time eating apples. We get ice cream for dinner every Sunday. We have extras for our meals on Sunday. We are having some beautiful weather here now. It is not too hot nor too cool. I have not got much to write this time, but will write more next time. I will write a longer letter to the paper later on.
With best wishes to all.
