Dear Mother:
This leaves me well and hope you are the same. We have been on the train for seven days and get on the ship this eve, for France, so you know how I feel. It is just like having one foot in the grave and the other slipping. If we get across we will be all right, but that is the question. If we never meet on earth any more we will meet in the land above; so tell everyone hello for me. Tell Jimmie I would write to him, but haven’t time now. I sent him a card this morning but we didn’t know where we would go then.
Well mother I will have to close for this time. Be good and tell all the boys and Sallie that I am on my way to France. It takes 15 days to make the trip and I will write when I get there---will write while on the ship if any chance.
As ever,
Archie.
NOTES: This letter was written by Arche Waters to his mother Mrs. J. D. Waters.
