TRANSCRIBED FROM THE ASHLEY COUNTY EAGLE JULY 11, 1918 P. 1
Editor Eagle and Friends:
Will drop you a few lines as I am thinking of old Ashley and my friends back there. We left Hamburg on the 26th of June and landed in Camp Pike that night a jolly crowd. And as luck would have it we were all placed in the same company. We have a nice set of officers and the boys are all friends and social. I have heard lots of boys say that they do not like army life but I think it is just fine when you are in a good company of home boys and have as good a set of officers as we have.
We have been examined and most of the boys have got their uniforms and we will be out of quarantine in a few days. We got one of our shots and expect to get another Monday.
Yours truly,
R. M. Watt
NOTES: The letter is written from Camp Pike.
