TRANSCRIBED FROM THE DEQUEEN BEE DECEMBER 21, 1917 P. 2
Camp Travis. Dec. 11, 1917.
As I have a spare moment I will not waste the time, but will praise my dear old home paper so much as to say it still has a warm welcome in Camp Travis, not only by me, but by others of this camp which take the Bee and enjoy reading it. I noticed a report from the infantry in this camp. He should write again. I don’t believe he did us fair by quitting with only one letter. Well, dear readers, it is a pleasure to me to have such a bunch of boys as we have here. It is almost like De Queen, for singings, We have also organized a Bible class in my barracks, so we just entertain ourselves while the quarantine is on, and quite a few of the boys besides me, have taken a great interest in both Bible and singing classes. This barracks is composed of quite a few McCurtain county Okla. boys, and therefore we use the Arkansas song books. “Praises Divine” is our choice. I guess De Queen folks are having some real winter, as we had ice the other night as far south as this and it is still pretty cool. Well, I have got a pretty large bill of --- for dinner I will try and get the K. P’s together and start it. Wishing my dear wife and all De Queen folks a merry Christmas and happy New Year.
I remain,
William B. Williams.
