TRANSCRIBED FROM THE MENA EVENING STAR JANUARY 23, 1919 P.4
We are having some awfully cold weather now. We almost freeze during the nights when we are on guard. We did have orders to be discharged the 15th, but they were changed and our officer told us he did not know when we would get out now. It surprised us as we were all counting on getting home this month. I guess I can stand it if the others can.
NOTES: This partial letter was written by Harris Malone Wimberly to his grandfather Lemuel Marion Wimberly. He was born on May 27, 1894, in Polk County, Arkansas and died on May 10, 1977 at Dumas, Texas. He is buried in the Cherry Hill Cemetery, Polk County Arkansas. Co., South Amboy, N. J. He was described as being of medium height and weight with blue eyes and light hair.
