My Dear Mother:
I guess you are beginning to want to hear from me by this time. I am getting along splendidly and enjoying life. I like the the army life fine. If one does not like it at first he will learn to feel at home and happy after he has been as long as I have.
Of course all of us get anxious for word from home. You must write and tell me all that is happening. Also tell me when you saw my “girl.” I hope she is still looking forward to my return home. Tell her, however, that she will have to look a long time for we are going to do this thing up thoroughly. But I will be back some day if I don’t get “bumped off.
Love to all of you,
Private J. M. Woods,
307 Ammunition Train Co.,
F. A. E. F.
NOTES: James M. Woods was born on October 24, 1898 and died on September 8, 1964. He is buried in the Post Oak Cemetery in McDougal, Arkansas in Clay County. His military headstone identifies him as an Arkansas Pvt. serving in Co. F., 301 Ammo Train.
