Mr. Gib Reese
Dear Friend:
Guess you will be somewhat surprised to hear from me. I am now somewhere in Canada. We crossed the Detroit River this morn. We have been in sight of some lake all morn. I don’t know what the Hell its name is. If its name is as big as it is I haven’t got time to write it anyway.
We stopped at Peru, Ind., about two hours last night. Man you never have seen no good looking women. I mean they hug and kiss you right in the mouth.
I am in the 141 Art. I may be a little late in going to france, but I will give the kisar hell when I get there. All of the boys in Beauregard have already gone to france.
Well tell everybody hello for me. I will be back as soon as (WE) make this fall drive. Please excuse writing as these R. R. in Canada are afull Rough. I will write you again as soon as I get to france, good by and good luck to all of you.
Jimmie
NOTE: This letter was written by Blake “Jimmie” Wren from Nashville, Arkansas. It was received by Gibbs Reese of Nashville. Wren had left the city about a year ago with a volunteer company. He was later transferred to the 141st Field Artillery.
