TRANSCRIBED FROM THE ASHLEY COUNTY EAGLE NOVEMBER 14, 1918 P. 1
I am well and feeling fine but think I’d feel better back in the states though. I think this little business will soon come to an end over here. The Huns will be running like rats to their holes. Dan is about three miles from me now, but I see him once a week. He is fat and fine and likes this country splendid. Tell mamma not to worry about me. I am all right. Have seen a lot of things I didn’t know this world contained. This is a beautiful country, lots of ancient buildings and everything seems so strange to me, as I never knew anything about any place except good old Arkansas, and very little of it. I haven’t been able to locate Criss yet. Wish I could run upon him. I had quite a pleasant trip over here: some of the boys were sea sick, but I stood it fine.
NOTES: This is a partial letter written by Harry G. Yelvington in France to his father, Mr. H. M. Yelvington who lives in Mist, Arkansas. He was born on April 25, 1893 and died on April 9, 1944. He is buried in the Mount Olive Cemetery in Ashley County, Arkansas. His military headstone identifies him as a Pvt 2 Inf. Tr. Regt.
